Default Tranny Flush

Is it possible to flush the transmission on an '85 5000CD turbo, automatic tranny? I have brown fluid (maybe some gear oil mixing in there) - car only has 70k on it, and I'm trying to switch over to synthetic ATF. Shop says there is no way to flush - they suggest to drain by removing pan and do that a few times. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Sounds like you need a new shop. I just hade my V8 auto done last week. There are a number of different companies making transmission flushing systems. BG, Snap-On and I believe GM has one and etc..... How they do it is they break on of the transmission lines going to the radiator or tranny cooler if you have one then they run the freshh fluid in and take the old out it removes something like 99% of the old tranny fluid. It was pretty slick to watch the fluid coming out of my transmision going form brown to brite red.

No tranny line, then you have nothing to worry about. Your car is a manual transmission. All Audi's automatic transmission uses the radiator as the cooler, which requires two lines from the transmission. One in and the other out.

Default Difficulty with flushing

Without the motor running, there is almost no way to drain the torque convertor. It will not drain by dropping the pan. I have seen torque convertors with drain plugs, but have never looked on an Audi for one. This is why they run 3-4 times the capacity of the transmission through to flush it.

I have not looked under a 5000 but I cannot imagine that thier would not be cooling lines. Thier has to be some line from the tranny to the radiator to coll the fluid. I know they had to take the line off at the tranny on the V8 because the fitting at the radiator was an o-ring type seal and not a threaded line. I know that mine takes dextron fluid.
