<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/54062/im000661.jpg"></center><p>Hello All,
When i purchased the 89 100 Avant with the slushbox i knew that the seal on the tranny oil pan was leaking. I have changed the seal twice and retightened the bolts well, and it is still leaking fluid, does anybody have the same problem? should I use any special sealant between the seal and tranny/pan? I know is from the seal because there is no fluid coming from the top, but yes from the oil pan seal area.
thanks

i can not relate to the leaking but i changed my fluid once and the seal is no easy to get on. although i have a 5000 it is prolly the same and the seal has to be on the right way, it looks like it is symetrical but it isnt (one of the corners on mine was rounded and the rest were more angled). I remember i had to have my dad help me and both of us had to hold it on each side and put the pan back on, it was a tuff thing to do so make sure the seal is on correctly that is what i think is the problem.
also i remember i had to put the pan on at an angle do to a pipe or somthing was in the way i cant remember exactly. i hope this helps because its all i know about thoughs seals

You need to make sure all mating surfaces are clean, the gasket is clean and not deformed in any way and you don't over torque the bolts (15 ft lbs).
The job is tough lying on your back. I hand tighten all bolts first, then tighten in a few steps up to torque, as I work from one side then to the opposite side. I fill just enough to check for leaks then fill all the way. I keep checking for the next day or two. A good syphon pump comes in handy.
good luck with it.

thanks 4 ur reply,
the weird part is that is leaking from the same side/spot as the previous two times i did the job, is that related? coult the pan be warped from heat?

and I found that stretching the gasket a bit before you put it on helped a lot. Next time you have the pan off though, make sure that the pan is straight, and if not, put it against and flat work surface and straighten it out. I usually use a bottle jack to hold the pan in place when I hand-screw the bolts in, and trust me, it's a lot easier. And I don't remember using any sealant whatsoever on the gasket, but be careful not to overtighten those four bolts.
Hope that helps,
Wilson.

I changed my pan gasket 3 times before I found out it was the 2nd gear servo cover leaking.
Look above the trans pan on the pass side. If the trans looks exeptionally clean below the piston cover that may be it.
