Default Transmission leak ??

My 87' 5K CST has developed a transmission leak. It seems to be comming from the transmission "oil pan".

Has anyone replaced this seal, and how difficult was it??

I think that this should eliminate the leak.

Just to let you guys know, the car that I'm now driving as my daily driver was a boneyard junk-car, I brought it back to life, and when I did, the car was bone dry of Transmission Fluid.

I put in some Tranny fluid, and it works great, the only problem that I can see is the fluid leak.

The car has plenty of power and does not slip. It does have a sort of "whine" sound, but I chock this up to the transmission just doing its job, since it drives great, except for the leak.

Any one BTDT??

Thanks,

Default That gasket is actually relatively spendy, I think paid around $30.

Otherwise the job itself is pretty straightforward. Dipstick tube is a mild pain. Dexron 2 is what you want to refill with.

Default No fluid, probably because of the origianl leak...

Too many people junk their cars for the simplest of reasons.

Default had a sizable leak on my '86 with AT last year.........

added Lucas brand AT stop leak product to the trany fluid. It helped a lot. Mechanic assurred me that it would not adversely affect the friction plates in the trany. An excellent product, I recommend it. It did not completely stop the massive leak my car developed, but would give me about 3 months before having to add more trany fluid and another plastic bottle of the Lucas product. I have since sold the car, but still see it on the road, so I don't think that the product damaged anything in the trany.

Check the differential oil. There is a seal between the transmission and differential which usually goes bad on these 3spd automatic. Gear oil from the differential mix with transmission fluid and the differential ring gear starts to wear which is why you might be getting that whinning sound.
