I wonder if the front calipers (they have 5 bolt hubs and look larger than mine -- maybe 4 piston, instead of 2?) from a 1986 vintage turbo will bolt unto my 5000S (which has standard 4 bolt hubs, and 14" rims)? If so, may I use the existing rotors?

I thought the 5000s all had single piston calipers? Do the turbo models have two piston calipers (front)?
maybe you experienced folks can give us a run down on standard equipment.

I don't know about the turbo's or quattros, but my 5000s has single piston calipers all around. I was kind of disappointed when I saw that. My 84 Volvo had quad piston front brakes and dual piston rears.

All 5000 Turbo Turbo/Quattro cars used to have double piston G60 calipers on front, beginning in late 1986 model year. G60 calipers newer made to other N/A type 44 cars. They were used on 1990-91 Audi coupes with 20V only.

Early '86 TQ's had G54 calipers with 288x20mm rotors. My '86 (VIN in 90k range?) has the G54's, but should have the G60's...Kinda wierd.

I want to improve the brakes on my '84 5000S (which uses OEM 4-bolt 14" wheels). Will the 4-piston calipers (are they what you call "G60"?) work with my rotors, hubs, and wheels?
Thanks.
Thanks.

The G60's are NOT 4-piston calipers, they are two piston floating type. Your calipers are only a single piston floating type.
Nor will the G60's work with your current rotors and wheels. You'd have to get 15" wheels (I've always been told that G60's will not fit under a 14" wheel), and the (pretty rare) 1990-91 type8A 90 quattro 20v front rotors, since one of the factory options was the G60 brakes in lieu of the G54's. You'll also likely need new brake lines. I believe once you get all those parts (calipers and lines from a 5kq or 5kt, rotors from the G60 equipped 90q20v, wheels from a 90 or 100 or CQ) that you'll be set.

Good explanation re: floating calipers. (Frankly, pretty marginal design on Audi's part.)
The calipers and wheels would prolly be the easiest parts to obtain. It sounds like the rotors are rare. (I'll check atermarket pricing, as used ones will prolly be toast.)
Oh, well, just a thought. (On this more or less daily driver, I'm more concerned with deceleration than acceleration.)
