So I came across an Audi that has a bad auto tranny. I also came across a parts Audi 5KQ that would be my donor vehicle. I found this site and was curious if anyone had additional sites that discuss this conversion.

I am fairly mechanically inclined and know how to weld, so not all that concerned with the conversion, but just need to know more details.

I think most of the V8s that have received a manual tranny swap used the 5-speed from a 200q20v rather than the 5K. They're different trannies.

What I understand is that an Audi 5000Q (not the turbo) uses a 016 tranny and has 4:11 gearing. I understand that these will work.

The 5kq (NON-turbo) is a perfectly good transmission, shifter assembly, pedal assembly and prop shaft donor. You will also need the vacuum control stuff for the center diff locking mechanism.

You will still need 200q20v axles, and may want 200q20v transmission tunnel sheet metal (5kq will work, but not nearly as well, and you can force the stock sheet metal to work ala Adam Mowafy and Brad W.).
