V8 oppinion
Hi all
I'm from europe and I want to buy a V8. The avarage price of these cars (3.6&4.2) in germany is about 2000-2500 Euro which is an extremely low price for a german luxury car like this. Are these cars good and why is their price so low? Are there any factory defects?

Ah so you live in Germany do ya...
Hi I'm over in Luxembourg...there is another German or two on this forum they will probably give more to this subject as well.
First of all these cars are cheaper in Germany because well most are about 14 Years old or more, but most important is the freaking GAS PRICES!! what the hell is going on over there...1.23 For gas yesterday while I was over there..good god..if they go higher even the newer A8 will go cheap.
Ok seriously...now other things to note the Automatic transmission on these cars are not known for durability..so make sure if the car is automatic is has the service done on the transmission..by the way have you noticed how the prices for these cars with 5 or 6 speeds are almost double or more!!
Oh yes don't forget the old timing belt make sure it was changed must have hard proof of it..
Defects.....Bose system had a recall...Uhhmmmm..
Hey anybody........
I don't know if my car had any defects....it has been a rather trusty car...as long as you take care of it.
Here is a picture of mine. (1990 V8 3.6 5 speed)

Re: Ah so you live in Germany do ya...
I dont live in germany, i live in bulgaria but if i buy a car especially one like this i'll go to germany and buy it from there because the auto markets here sell mainly cars which have been crashed in germany and repaired here and the odometres are always about 100k km back form the real mileage. So it is not worth it to buy a car from bulgaria.
what is the fuel consumption? and what gearboxes are avilable?

Fuel consumption??
Hmm...well with the 5 speed I am doing actually better fuel consumption as the 200 Turbo.
I can reach 9-10 Liters average on the V8 5-speed if I drive normally ...15 max.
The 200 10V turbo was pushing 12 average/...rather interesting.
The V8 automatics will suck down a little more ..I would say around 12L per 100 for an Auto matic.
I was hoping one of the European V8 members would be able to provide some input on this.
There is only three kinds of gearboxes available in Eupope.
-5 speed
-6 speed
-Automatic
The 6 speed of course is the most sought after..but also the most expensive.

Well i am in Germany and i payed 5000 euro for mine. got it with only 140000kms on it. fully loaded and checked with audi about all my services. done on time. my car was originally owned by VW in Wolfsburg. I have an automatic. no problems with it. only problem my car had when i bought it was the O2 sensor was bad. replaced and good to go. I get about 11.5L/100km average with my slushbox so long as i keep it on E and not in S and baby it around. normally it is more like 15L the way i drive. I looked on www.mobile.de and there are quite a few very very high milage ones on there. 250000+ km. all automatics. 6spd very rare. i did find one but they wanted 8000 some odd Euro and it had 267K kms on it. Go ahead and chuck the Bose system for something better. Thank goodness i work on the US Army base and get american gas price of 53 cents a liter. no way i could afford it with the german prices. Audi parts are pricey. I am waiting to get an A8 myself. All in all V8Q is a great car. autobahn rocket.
