Default V8 Quattro auto to 5-spd conversion?

Hey folks.
Hopefully i won't offend anyone, but i'm a pretty mechanically competent 19 year old, I love all vehicles that are german, and I have a good reason to hunt for quattro (PA winters). I'm trying to decide between converting my 300 hp Corrado G60 to Syncro (i know it's not as good as quattro but it is something) or hunting down an audi with enough 'go' to keep the grin on my face-
My question is, has anyone ever attempted converting a V8 Q to stick from auto? I know a from a guy who put a 3.6-l V8 into his UrQ that the 5-cylinder trans bolts up, but i don't know how integrated the various other parts of the car are with the transmission (ie for VW's, an ECU from an auto G60 won't run a 5-spd G60). Also, converting pedal cluster / shifter mechanism? any guess how hard this would be?
Thanks all, opinions are welcome too (yes, even opinions as to the cost-effectiveness of all this work).
The Turk

If you are gona do this conversion you be better off just buying a parts car 5000 tq and use the pedal assembly, tranny, front struts with the hubs, shifter etc. the whole convertion took me 32hours. I made a custom fly wheel that took the 5000tq preasure plate (2400 psi twin diaphram). The only set back is that the front wheels sit 1" more inside the fenders from the v8.

Default hey, it would be a great project I think

If you have the time and want a nice project Id say go for it. Audi V8 with 5 gears to shift must be a great joy. And at the end when its all done, you have something to be proud of. Ive seen projects that were much larger.

The only way that you will be able to mate a V8 automatic to an existng audi manual trans is with an adapter plate. Sorry to say but audi did two blocks for their V8's one for the automatic and the other for the manual. The easy way is to find a V8 from a car with a manual tranmision if you plan on using a manual transmission, but then the car would already have a manual transmission.

You can go the other route and buy an automatic transmission, but you will have to get an adapter plate in order to mate the two together.

I'm not sure if the ECU from an automatic will work with a manual transmission. There are just too many sensors which have to work just right.

I love when every body is a mechanic.
Tell me something audiqv8 did u ever do this convertion and I would love to know where you gety your info? I have 2 auto block siting in my shop and they both bolt up to the 5000tq tranny and I bought the 1990 v8 that I converted early last year andits siting at the shop, so I would love to know where u get this info.
One more question, why would audi spend all that money to have 2 blocks.
The v8 has 2 bolt paterns.
If there is anny dispute over this I will gladly post pictures of the v8 block and the whole audi v8 convertion.

Default Who said you needed an adapter plate?

Trust me, the automatic block WILL BOLT to an 016, 01A, 01E (both 5 and 6spd) transmission. The only thing may be a bolt hole needing drilled/tapped, but "1 Slow Audi" can clarify that for sure. To me, it looks like the 12v automatic block has (nearly) the same bolt pattern as the 10vt 5spd block. I know that they both work on the same engine stand w/out moving the mounting "arms" at all.

The V8 won't be any different. The only difference between the two versions will be the pilot bearing and oil sump. The automatic cars have a brass(?) bushing that is pressed in to the crank in lieu of a needle roller bearing that the 5spd cars used. Its the same setup (as far as I can tell) for all 10v 3spd/5spd, 12v 4spd/5spd, etc engine versions by either looking at both, or looking at pictures of both.

Im striping the audi v8 for parts I bought that car for $500 cdn of that guy he ran it with out oil and the bottom end is shot so as Im striping it Im goin to take pictures and post them.
I tried getting parts for the bottom end and they dont sell anny parts for rebuilds.(bearings, rings,) You have to buy the whole short block from audi.
I tried to get parts from europe including audi in germany and they dont sell those parts, so I did my own research and I mached rings bearings and I can rebuild them, I alerady rebuild a v8 and runs mint.
