V8: spark plug wire resistance...

so the audi repair manual says the resistance should be around 5000K ohm.
iv tested my wires, and they all show about 6000K ohm.
the wires them selves even say "5K ohm" on them.
is it time to change these wires?
thanks,
tomek.

Hard to believe every wire is bad by the same percentage. Can you verify your ohm meter & leads are good by measuring a known value resistor or plug wires on another vehicle? Does the meter zero out when shorting the leads together?

6000 Ohms is only about 15% away from 5000 Ohms. Even with new production standard carbon resistors (which I'd guess are easier to control than a four foot long wire), plus/minus ten and even twenty percent tolerance resistors are common. Plus/minus five percent is considered a tight tolerance spec. Just my two cents' worth.
If measured resistance exceeded ten thousand Ohms, I'd worry.

Can't believe no one got this one!
Wires have a resistance factor, PLUS, connectors have a resistance factor.
Plug wire resistance will vary with length...
Look at the wires, bet the ends have a 1k resistance! (don't feel like digging under the hood right now, too early) Remeber Bentley being a little vague on this, imagine that!
If all are pretty close you're okay. Look for chaffing or burn spots. IME biggest failure rate is from neglect. Wires do break down over time, but oil and rubbing against something usaully hastens their demise.
