Default V8Q RPM Sensor/Crank Sensor Heat Plate

Well it has taken me 1 hour to get one bolt out. Now the lower one on the plate is impossible with the tools I have. Easy enough to see but there is not much clearance there to work.

Those sensors are in a bad spot. I assume the exhaust / manifold stays in place during R&R. Any other tips?

One part # is 905-381 and the other is a "905-381-A" I assume the more expensive one (w/o the -A) is the speed sensor.

Thanks

Yes the exhaust manifold normally stays in place. Gear wrench is a nice tool for this job, or you can use a 1/4 drive 10mm socket. Takes about 20 minutes to change with the right tools.

Both sensor are exactly the same except for the color band around the wire. You can replace both sensor with the cheaper if you want.

If you think taking it off is hard, wait till you try to put it back again.

Default V8Q RPM Sensor/Crank Sensor - Oil Leaks

Got the job done. Not without more than a few @#&%!.

The crank sensor was loose on the mounts. I used some loctite during install of the new ones.

I used the bench grinder to put hex/flats onto the top of a 10mm (shortened too) socket to make an angling socket wrench I guess you could call it. The socket was drifted in the "C" end of a 12 mm spanner. Worked great.

Going back in I used some very thin EVA foam inserted in the shield plate holes, to make one ***'y out of the bolts and the heat shield, then was able to put the plate/bolts in place in one go.

Then I hit the holes on the marks within a few minutes, so that was OK.

The connectors were a pain, I lost the Bosch clip on one, then lost another trying to put it back on. Ended up using some thin wire to make my own retainer for one of the plugs.

Like a lot of V8's I've got an oil leak back toward the Driver's side of the engine and it doesn't " look" like the Dist'r O-rings to me. It could be, but I can't see any oil coming off from under the dist'r housing area. I place a rag under the housing and get nothing. I replaced the vent hose off the cam cover.

I am thinking it might be deeper into the engine - the RMS or off the head. Has anyone done a retorque of the head bolts and what was the result?
