My 90V8 tranny started to whine a few days ago on start up- drove to Boston from Cape cod 2 days ago- shifting was fine- made the trip back OK. Then yesterday the noise got worse and I shut her down. At that time the car was not shifting well and sputtering along. I heard that the filter is probably clogged. Heard it is a job to remove the pan/filter. Dumped the fluid and re-filled. No change, but the noise was much less. But the car is shifting poorly-can't make it up a small hill. Is the tranny dead? or is my filter really clogged and in need of a change then all will be fine?? It sounds dead-but can the tranny die from one day to the other w/o prior shifting problems?

Are the segments on the IC all light up? The PRND...ect? You can pull the codes, check SJM for the instructions.
Oh & when you say "But the car is shifting poorly-can't make it up a small hill."
Does the car rev over 2,500/3,000RPM?

I will check- the car does rev up to 3000 rpm when trying to get up a hill. After a rest or turning the car on and off, the car shifts but not like it did before.
