Default What was Audi's intention in making two different keys?

I can see some utility if the two keys that came with my '88 5000CSTQ were (1) Master key and (2) Ignition and doors only (for use by valets).

My car came from Audi with (1) Master key and (2) one that opens doors only.

My question: Why?

I have one that does everything and then I have one that does everything but open the trunk.

It might also not open the glovebox but I can't remember...

Both original key's I have start the car fine.

Default I'd guess they are the same but the second key is a crappy copy and doesn't work in the ignition.

The door locks are ******, very loose and not too particular about the key; the ignition is a prude, key has to be perfect to turn.

Default Good guess, but my owner's manual states otherwise

It doesn't make sense to me, but I could swear that the manual says that there's (1) Master key and (2) key for use in doors only.

I'll grab the owner's manual and re-read just to confirm . . .

Default I was wrong.

From the owners manual, page 7:

"Key A is the master key . . ."

"Key B is the secondary key and is only for the doors, the steering/ignition lock, and the lockable tank cap. The luggage compartment and glove compartment cannot be opened with this key."
