and where can I get it? I am in NJ, and have ready access to Pepboys and Karparts, but will take other suggestions. Is that a dealer item?
I drive an 87 5000S Quattro.

That usually means you can rule out most of the green stuff. Although some of them can be phosphate free.
Pentosin Blue stuff, Audi dealers should carry it.
If you don't have an Audi dealer nearby....try a Honda dealer.
Their factory coolant is also phosphate free.

The older (Blue) coolant is in the 85, and the 86 4kq for some reason has the red stuff already in it (I guess put in by the PO). I wouldnt reccommend Dexcool, but would reccommend the Audi Red stuff (G12 I think).

Like I said before, not all green stuff is bad stuff.
Honda's OEM coolant is green, but phosphate free.
I believe in a recent Car & Driver interview, Xerex is claimed to be phosphate free.
Stuff that isn't that I've run across: Peak, Autozone brand, Penske.
don't know about Prestone.
Basically the phosphates will corrode the aluminum.
