Where is the O2 sensor in my 1988 Audi 100(5000)!!!
hi guys,
I need help for my o2 sensor.
since I bought this car, the check lamp stay on everytime, so I decided to clean or replace it.
fuel filter also..
but I hardly find a part of audi 100 cd because it's not popular here in Australia.. So. I'm gonna clean it by myself first, after that, if there's no effect, I'll change it.
Well, here in Aus, the driver side is opposite, (I'm not Aussie by the way..) So I'm confused when I think about the position of part..
By the way, here are questions.
1. if the check lamp on, which sensor should I check? could be O2, but I don't know which is it. Could you explain me where is it?
2. if i wanna clean the fuel filter, ( I've read one article about cleaning fuel filter in this website..) is there any special factor should I consider? for example.. engine should be cold... something, something..
Thanks your reading ^^; and have a good day!

The 02 Sensor is on the downpipe just downstream of the exhaust manifold. You need a special socket with a slit on the side to clear the wire(s).
If the Check Engine light is on, check for codes by using a fuse to jumper the fuel pump relay - you'll need a manual (preferably Bentley) to translate the codes. Don't just arbitrarily start swapping out sensors - that could get expensive real fast. Diagnose the fault generating sensor(s) and replace the one(s)that do not perform within specified parameters. It could also be just a broken wire or corroded connector.
LOL! Ya don't clean the fuel filter. You replace it.

you can replace the 02 sensor with a generic 4 wire, bosch # 13275, splice it to the old 02 sensor wiring & ground the 4th wire, it is cheaper & provide a better ground

Thank you all you guys!! I didn't expect fast reply!~
the Fault code is '4444' .. is it "no fault code have been recorded" ?
What should I do from now on? i'm confused again..TT;

Oh..
I also got code '1111' after try again.
the first code is '4444' 2nd code is '1111'
and it's redisplayed 2 times, and turned off.
1111 means fuel injector.. control unit?
hum.. how can i do ?

I had a non start condition caused by a plugged cat, when I ran the codes I got 4444 & then 1111 so I thought I had a bad Injector control unit, but that was OK, it was the plugged cat

The Catalytic Converter was contanimated with unburnt fuel, rendering it useless & unable to flow exhaust gas, creating a non start condition
