Why does my door sticker say the car weighs like 4400 pounds?

As Tox says, that is GVW - the maximum permissible weight
Gross vehicle weight is the maximum that particular vehicle can legally weigh, loaded with all fluids, passengers and cargo.
Curb weight is the vehicle dry and empty, for the 5000 series, that works out to between 2850 lbs. (5KS sedan) and 3450 lbs. (turbo quattro Avant).
