Have not been on here awhile, so I thought a rant was in order. I recently changed to 5W-30 at the suggestion of the Audi dealer with cold weather setting in the Dakota's. To my dismay the rear main started to leak once the engine cooled down (several drops the size of half dollars). Changed to 10W-40 and the single drop was the size of a dime, this is from a '91 100 with 122,000 mile that never leaks anything. I finally went back to my Rotella 15W-40 and has not leaked since. I thought maybe the heavier weight was harder on the engine (in 0 degree weather) so decided to try 5W-30, I will put up with lifter noise for about a second longer. The lifters always clattered for about 2 seconds upon startup when it sits overnight, so 3 seconds will not bother me.
