Default Would CIS survive an EMP pulse?

I'm more curious about the ECU. If you were hit by an ECU pulse would the ECU damage prevent the car from running? What do you think?

an emp pulse will destroy all electronicd depending on strength. where did you get a pulse from?

Default Is somebody experimenting with Thermonuclear Fission?

Holy crap Paul! What are you getting into!

Or do you mean ESD (Electro Static Discharge)? ESD can indeed fry electronics. And if the effects aren't immediate they can shorten life expectancy.

Default Lets be crazy and say nuclear bomb 150 miles away.

Far enough to survive indefinately yet close enough to get the EMP pulse. Upon futher investigation, EMP pulse only goes 50 miles from blast radius and I will be quite further than 50 miles away from any nuclear bomb if possible.

But really, unless the ECU gets fried, everything should generally work right? I know older mercedes are touted as being able to survive an EMP, I would think they have the same rules for their CIS as do their Audi brothers. Or could it just be CIS and diesel that has no electronics what so ever?

Default It's "what if" night in my household. The most important thing to me is

if the audi will live through the event.

Default FUKT! Not a hope in helll my friend!

And EMP from a full scale Nuclear assault would completely fry everything for miles around that has any sort of micro controller in it.

You'd be looking for an early Porsche with good ol' fashioned Weber carbs!

Default further to that...

it is a known strategy to burst a bomb over the ocean so that the blast zone does not kill civilians but the EMP will take out communication netorks. You are having a grim discussion for a Sunday night! Besides... if that scenario were to take place you'd not be likely to find anyone manning a gas station!

Default Those old Mercs run a fully mechanical injection, no ECU.

CIS would be dead in the water just like EFI because the fuel pump wouldn't even turn on.

Default Lead shielding around the ECU would be a start...

Or we can all drive '68 Dodge Darts with the points ignition...

On second thought, naaaaaaaaaaaah.
