I agree, the O2 can be the problem and that car has one. Bring to a mechanic, all this time your spending, even at $10 and hour is lots of $$. Bring to a German mechanic you trust and let him figure it out, shouldn't be more than $150 or less to check it out.

Dangerous problems with the engine or body or abnormally high mileage definitely need of mechanical attention Engine might need a minor repair.

so the majority of my understanding problem has been that I thought this was the K-Jetronic. But from my Haynes its looking like I have the KE-Motronic system. One that actually acts a tad more like modern MPI. Soo now all the cobwebs are clearing up. I havent had a chance to test the o2 sensor just yet, but I did get one ordered and I might just outright replace it. Im pretty sure the owner before me said he never replaced it. Ill let you guys know what I find. I hope thats it. I havent put much money at all into it and itd be nice to get it running on the small amount ive spent.

New problem.

I got the o2 in. Its doing much better. Now I just need to get it to idle right. Seems like I just cant get it.

Any suggestions, besides bring it to a mechanic?

Default Check/clean ISV if you haven't yet.

Try unplugging the idle stabilization valve. That should make it idle worse. If it doesn't make a difference when you unplug it, the ISV is probably dirty or broken. Take it out and clean it with carb cleaner. There's a way to cycle it when it's out of the car, I think the humanspeakers site talks about it, and that's the best way to get the gunk out of it.
