Default 1990 Cq early build Maf adjustment...

I have searched and searched. I have failed to find an actual detailed process using a volt meter or a wideband. I have found a few posts saying you have to jump the Diag. plugs. Is this a step???

Also, any info on what direction of turn on the screw does what? both my cars are having a rich at idle problem that are kicking my butt to fix.

thanks for any help you can offer

Default Hook a voltmeter WITH an averaging function to the output wire of your three wire 02 sensor.

There will be a plug with two wires. That's for the heating function of the 02. Leave that alone. Hook a wire to the single wire plug of the 02, this is the output wire that the ECU uses. Adjust the pot on the MAF until the averaging volt readout reaches 0.5 volts.

Default related question about the o2 sensor

when i replaced the o2, the write up i followed said it didnt matter what white wire went to what white wire. is it possible to screw these up and have a heater wire hooked to the signal wire?

Default Have you read the appropriate section in the Bentley?

There are no writeups here, very few seem to even be aware of this adjustment. Any exhaust gas analyzer or wideband O2 sensor will work. Just adjust the potentiometer until the mix is stoich at idle. If turning the screw doesn't seem to do anything, then the pot in your MAF may be bad - I've come across more than one that was busted.

The idea of using an averaging volt meter on the lambda signal was just a workaround I came up with on my own. Nobody has tried it yet. I'll let you know how it works out later this spring - I won't be able to do it until then as I will be between 300 and 6000 miles away from my CQ until late April.

Default Not going with OE sensors can cause problems...best to pay a little more and get the OE sensor...

...with OE connector.

Default Not possible. Maybe I'm missing something but the two heater wires are white

and the signal wire is black. So if you matched the wires color for color you should be fine.

Be sure to just tap into the signal wire, don't disconnect it from the ECU.
