Default 1991 CQ weight reduction

My friend has a CQ (the one on my page) and wants to get rid of some of the weight. He said something about taking the A/C out. How much weight would that get rid of? Anything else that he could take out? Thanks.

Default Well

If he's serious the AC could come out, put some lightweight wheels (you can get <20 lb. wheels!) and I think that a brake upgrade should drop some weight. May look into getting serious and taking seats out, and radios and dashes. I don't know how serious he is, whether he just wants better cornering or to turn it into a race ready automobile.

Does that help?
Primo

I remember MikTip saying his brakes reduced 14 lbs. per piece?

Primo has it right, its all about compromises. How much do you want to sacrafice comfort for weight savings? Spare tire and jack can go.
5mph bumpers can be removed (but you will sacrafice safety). Get rid of unsprung weight, On my MR2 I have 17x8.5" rims @ 14lbs and 16x7" @10.8lbs. Now thats light!

exactly...unless i find another CQ (with a bad engine), i'll be removing many things from my car before the Solo2 season starts up. rear bench, stereo, sound deadening, carpets, swapping front seats, headliner, roof controls, etc. may eventually look into lexan or ____ side windows at a later date. also looking at some different rim choices, but a couple brands do not make 16" sizes which is the limit of my car (SCCA rule). oh, one other thing, he may want to move the battery either under the rear seat (a la urq and S2) or to the hatch area (battery box).

The power seats should come out first...those are heavy!! He will have to "custom fit" the new seat

Custom made in Japan, I ordered them in August, they should be here any day. They should look good on a black car.
