1993 90 CS check engine light on acceleration

So, for the last week my check engine light will come on when I accelerate and go off. It's finals week so I haven‼sup>TMt gotten a chance to look into it.
We eliminated the heat as the cause, because even if the engine is cool the light turns on. Also, there is no consistency, the light can be off for a day then it pops on, sometimes it stops popping on if I restart the car. It might be unrelated but acceleration has been shoty this week too. Air filter was replaced 2 months ego when I bought the car. It has a new belt, a new coolant pump and pipes, as well as a new thermostat.
Any suggestions for a poor female college student?
(I spent 2 weeks on trying to find ways to fill the AC from the low end, finally found it on the underside. I was thinking of divorcing the car because of ****ty customer service. But it‼sup>TMs so damn hot and handled and acceleration, usually, is like a car should. Now this, should I divorce?)
ps. Diagnostics - can I take it to a jiffy lube or pep boys to get it run or are the systems different. (I have a European 2.8 litter engine not the American version.)

it's *possible* that your MAF sensor is on it's way out, and that the CEL is a lean code. You notice it on acceleration because when u "step on it" you are drinking in more air. But because the MAF is buggered it doesn't compensate fuel properly, and hence OBD1 throws a code; this also explains your poor performance.
it might also be an oxygen sensor. take the above paragraph and substitute "Oxygen Sensor" for "MAF sensor", and you are basically looking at the same principle.
But truely without either having a reference of recent codes or being a gearhead who knows the motor inside & out, there's no way I or anyone else here can magically discern what is wrong with your Audi... sorry. suggestions is the best we can do for now.
if you ever figure out the codes come on back and someone will most likely be able to give further assistance

...so unless you somehow shipped a euro-spec engine over and installed it, with the Bosch ECU (versus the Hitachi system that the US/Canadian cars use), I don't know what really makes your 90 any different than the rest of 'em running around here.
You car has the standard US/Canadian-only bumpers, and normal orange US/Canadian front corner lights...
