205-55-16 vs 205-65-16
any real difference besides the 65 being just a bit taller?
they should still fit just fine on OE rims and they are cheaper then 55 as 55 is more low profile and for snows that is not really needed.
from what I gather up to 225's can be mounted on factory 16 rims without issue although 225's are getting pretty fat.
comments or opinions?

no wonder I seem to be passing everybody, I am going faster by a few mph then I thought, oops.
course the real question was if the 65 would fit on an OE rim and as the mechanic at the dealer noted up to 225 could then anything less then that will as well.
the price difference between 55/65 can be $10-15 per tire when for snows its not needed at all to have hot looking low profiles.
All I know is the Michelin MX's have to go for now, those are a deathtrap for the winter.

that is true
225 is way to fat, 205 is decent.
195's in 16's are somewhat hard to find
195-55-16's come up but they are really $$, must be a rare size.
seems 205 is the lowest common size for 16's and also have the best price.

It's not recommended to put 225s on 7" wide wheels...as a matter of fact a set of Kumhos I had...
...said they must be mounted on a 7.5" or wider wheel right on the sidewall, so it really depends how wide your 16s are.
If you have a sport suspension I wouldn't run a 65 profile tire as they'll probably rub. My '96 A6q came with 205/65/15s which didn't rub but there was tons of wheel gap.

225 is pretty huge
205-65 though on 16's should not be too fat or rub and should fill up the wheel well without being too packed.
the big difference between 55/65 can be $15 per tire so it seems 65 is more common with 55 being more a specialty size thus a higher price
trying to dig up a good price on a decent snow for my mom's wagon, as I expected tire prices have gone up a good deal since I last bought snows a few years ago.

I bought a set of 99 A4 sport rims with Nitto 450s on them that were 225-50-16s. Rim width was 7". Seem to be just fine and fit on my 90 with the 5lug conversion. Damn close to the tierod (.3") though with an offset of 45.

Eh, I've always run OE spec sizes and never had problems...that's why the spec specfic rolling...
...diameter tires. Why risk the rubbing and ruining a set (then you'll spend a lot more than $10-$15 a tire to replace them)?
If it was close, or smaller I'd be all for it, but bigger is just dumb IMO.
