20v 7A Turbo Conversion Headgasket Interest
Howdy! A friend of mine, new owner of the 200q20v actually, is working with MSL on a headgasket that will drop the N/A 20v compression a point or so. He didn't have much of any details on height and material, but asked if I would see what the interest was out in the internet 20v world. He is going to have one made regardless, but if the shop is setup to turn one of these gaskets out it would be easier to ask his mate to make more if people want them.
More details would be nice, but it's the idea that I'm tossing out there. Headgasket, then one could use a bunch of junkyard turbo parts, turbo, EM, oil filter bracket, oil cooler, stock oil lines, and so forth. Add a supplemental or full fuel system. Could be less than a 3B or AAN swap if done properly, by a fair amount.
This guy is a machinist and we have also be chatting about modifying 7A heads over to 3B/AAN spec by adding 3 water ports and mounting holes for the stock 3B or AAN water manifold. I know that was a hot topic on the 20v list for a bit.
Anyone?
Cheers,

Price range for the gasket?
I have a few parts for such a conversion lying around. Just building a new house so money is short. But this is just the thing that I would need. not much work on the bottom end. Keep us informed

Headgasket
Don't re-invent the wheel. Mordy over at Gasket Works already has a template made for the 20V headgasket. He can make them as thick as .093" if you want. They're solid copper so stack em up.
Trouble is with that technique, you alter the valve timing slightly. May not be much for you, but that is one reason I have an .093" gasket, to compensate for the material removed from the head. Depends on how much you lift the head from stock.

Re: Headgasket
Howdy! It's not my project so I was just tossing the idea out.
And yes an adjustable timing gear must be used when reducing compression like this, or for that matter increasing comp with a thinner gasket.
I will tell Gene about Gasket Works and see what he wants to do.
Thanks,

Re: Sounds like a plan
Well Gene has a 200q20v out of comission, used to push 450bhp or so. One of the valves broke and put a hole through one of the pistons. He bought my 200q20v and had the frame/body work completed and now has 2 200q20v's to play with. He's got a compliment of RS2 parts on his desk, a brand spanking new 3B block, but wants to be different it would seem. Wants to turbo up a 7A as a cost savings measure and see what it can do, then build the new block up slowly and to the exact specs he wants.
We've also been tinkering with the idea of water manifold modification for the 7A head. He's a machinist and can do all sorts of fun stuff, so while talking we decided he should measure out his 3B head's coolant ports (4 w/ water manifold) then spec that out to a 7A and drill (only 1 port stock). This would essentially turn a 7A head into a 20vt head, the ONLY difference being the exhaust valve P/N, not sure why though because they are both sodium filled valves. You know?

If you were driving with a bad oil pump, would this affect the turbo in any way? Does the oil pump..
