Default 20v Turbo head on 10v block

I will be buying a 1988 90 quattro.. I would like to get a 20v turbo head if possible. Can I put that head on that particular block?

has anyone done this conversion?

thanks for the help

not to start anything up, but if any of you have the R&T On Audi & Auto Union (1980-1986), go to page 95...

"Interestingly, Audi's director of R&D, Ferdinand Piech, says that the 4-valve cylinder head of Audi's rally car will bolt into the 5000S quattro, as will the 6-speed transmission."

note: 1986 5000S turbo quatto, this was pre-non-turbo quattro type 44 sedans, 1985 publication date.

Default Yep, I read the same thing. Problem is...

...The heads for the rally cars were speacially modified by Lehman Engineering, to accomodate a 5000 block cast from an aluminum alloy. I've tried this, and I assure you it will not work.

i figured there was a caveat...did you try the 7A head on an MC motor yet (more widely avail, almost identical to the 3B head), or just the older ur-q 10vt (forget the code off the top of my head).

I don't know about which head will fit where, but the Audi Sport 6 speed fits on a 90Q iron block. Trouble is the 6 speed doesn't have a center diff, it's locked. So trying to maneuver at slow speeds, with sticky tyres, and on tarmac, requires a bit of muscle.

They're identical. The blocks didn't change much from the WX to MC engines.
