Default 20v wont start......

<center><img src="http://www.audi90.ch/main/images/motor.jpg"></center><p>
ok the car ran fine then one morning just won't start, no spark. Did a new distributor, cap rotor, stupid gear the whole thing. Also a new coil and tried several ecu's and still won't start. Any ideas on what can be wrong.

TIA

Default check crank angle sensor.

if there is no signal from the crank the ecm doesnt think the engine is turning over or at least it doesnt know where in the rotation the crank is...

Default the "pin" problem? or could it be that i pulled the alarm fuse.....

was searching and saw that the alarm can cause the car to not allow a spark. Also the car died over night, could it be the pin thing or crank sensor?

THanx

Default I dunno... its just the first thing that came to mind when you said you had replaced those parts

the camshaft hall sensor is the other reference signal used to establish timing iirc.... so I'd check both of those.

Default Coupe or 90?

I'd be interested either way.

Default 90...just talked to the kid and.....

he is a VW mechanic so knows what he's doing. But he also did a new crank angle sensor, put the alarm fuse back in, and the car doesn't have a cam sensor. That's new stuff on top of waht i said above. YOu have any ideas on what is wrong? Says that if i worked on it for a day i could fix it, he's since got another car and doesn't have time to try to fix it.

also the wires going to the coil are good.

Default The blasted Engine Position (Crank Angle) Sensor gave me a ton of sh_t for 3 years. >>>

If that's the problem you'll see multiple 2112's when the ECU codes are pulled. (If you've not done it before check 20V.org) If you see this code, my advice would be to bite the bullet and buy a brand new Engine Position Sensor (sometimes called Ignition Timing Sensor) from a dealer. I messed around with 2nd hand parts which really wound me up.

Be very careful to get the right colour end plug. For the 20V the grey plug is the engine speed sensor, while the black plug (the one you'll want) is for the Engine Position Sensor.

Having said all that, my guess is that because you've been playing around with the disy - brass gear etc. - it's more likely that that's the problem. The only way to know is to pull the codes..... Good Luck
