Default 80/90 transmissions

Do all 80/90 quattros have the same 5 speed transmission with the center (Torsen)locker between the front and rear axles? Also, do these transmissions bolt directly to the 5000 qt mc engine?
Thanks

Default All 5 cyl blocks will bolt up in place of eachother. All made in the same cast.

I know that the 6 cyl transmissions are different. Also, the 20v trannys use a different clutch. Spline count is different. Check out www.80tq.com

http://www.80tq.com</a

Default 80/90's came with an O1A gearbox, 5000 Q came with an O16 gearbox...

...You could use the O1A, but the O16 is a better gearbox. It's MUCH stronger than the O1E. Sierra used them in their S2 rallycars rather than getting an O1E from a real S2.

Default Re: 80/90 transmissions

the 012 (fwd), 016 (locker and torsen type 44 chassis, locker type 85/87), 01A, and 01E all bolt up to the 5cyl blocks. the auto-tranny blocks are slightly different (different bolt locations) but still bolt up to the manual trannies (at least the 3.6L 32v V8 does). also, final drives are different, either 3.89's or 4.11's. and...not all 5cyls are the same, the 4v cars have a couple/few more oil/water passages in them going to the head, and the 2.5L 10v (eurovan) uses a taller block. but the bore spacings are all the same.

btw, the 01A and 01E are still being used in the A4/A6 cars. whether or not their bolt patterns are the same or not i dunno (but i suspect them to be). only way to tell would be a directo comparison. hopefully they made the 01A stronger that those found in the 80/90/CQ, otherwise some A4 1.8tq owners are gonna be in for nasty surprises with broken gears and/or bad synchros after a while.
