I have an 88 90Q with 280,000 miles original clutch 5 cyl engine and was thinking of buying my friends 91 Coupe Quattro. Is this 1991 Coupe any faster with the 20 valve, or will it be similar due to the weight of the Coupe?? Will the gear ratios be as low as my 5cyl 1988 (Very low gears). I have been told their are more mechanical upsets with the 20 valve?? How was the 1991 coupe? any different than 1990. Will the car feel similar in driving (Coupe vs. sedan)?

the CQ weighs more than the 90q, has more HP, more luxo goodies, similar suspensions (possibly revised dampers?), slightly longer wheelbase, and there aren't very many around...
btw, the gearing is the same for Final, R, 1, and 2...the CQ is shorter geared in 3, 4, 5.
not real sure how there can be more mechanical upsets on the CQ vs the 80/90q...i've replaced the same parts on my 5kq as the CQ (rear brakes, slave cylinder, door handle). the 5kq needed a steering rack and the CQ needed a hydraulic pump rebuild (slammed on the brakes during an accident so i wouldn't hit the Olds in front of me with the S2 nose, blew out the brake half of the pump). only things really different are the idle circuits, injectors, and thats all i can think of off the top of my head...

Did the CQ have an armrest like the 80/90 series ??? I have the armrest in my 90Q (got lucky) and could not live without that thing if I buy this CQ 1991. How can I retrofit?

they are not that much faster cause they're heavier, but definately much rarer. my 88 90q doesn't have arm rest, i think only power seats got arm rest.

does not have one, was not an option (at least with the sport type seats as they have a lumbar adjust there...). there is, however, an armrest you can buy and put in the car. its somewhere on the 20v page...

Cupholder/Armrest mod

COMFORT seats had the armrest (CQ has power seats and no armrest due to Lumbar adjustment ****), and not all CQ's have a rear sway bar (mine does not, its an early build).

The big thing is going to be the cost of parts. cq and 20v parts are more than your 10v 90. A lot of stuff is unique to the cq (front brakes, suspension arms, body panels, glass, interior, etc)
Also, 20vs don't make the power live the 10vs do down low. They love to run above 4k.

Actually my 88 90Q has an armrest so I got lucky!! Mine has 280,000 miles original clutch. I am about to buy a CQ I think?? I need a change as this is my second 88 90Q (first one had 299,900 miles on it when I sold it).
