Default 90 20v reliability versus 4k (for a winter car)

I'm looking for a winter car so I dont have to keep my A4 in DC this winter while I am up here working... I'd like to keep the A4 in the garage in Florida rather than outside here all winter.

I have been checking out a few 4k's and 90's.

One in interest (although a little priced high I think) -
<a href="http://www.audifans.com/marketplace/search.php?submit=true&id=3232&table=cars">90 20v quattro</a>

and <A Href="http://www.audifans.com/marketplace/search.php?submit=true&id=3215&table=cars">86 4000q</A>

Thoughts about which would be a better deal for just using this winter, and as a 2nd car once it warms up...

Default I know the owner of that 90 20v, it is in very nice condition, and is worth more then the asking.

He just bought a VW Golf 1.8t so he needs it sold quick. The 20v's are a much better choice IMHO. Check out 20v.org for more on the 7A engined cars.

Default Yes sir.

There is one for sale by me with 200k for $2000. These motors and trannys see 300k regularly.

Default Hmmm.. ok.. Do these have an interference head? Timing belt, right (not chain)?

I'm concerned that it has never been changed...I changed them at 30k in the 944...

Default Has a belt and chain, but the chain should never be changed.

Interference head, yes.

But the belt should... How much is that job, typically?

$500-ish area, including parts and labor. For belt and pump with some new seas

Few hundred $? I dont think the car is worth $2700 if I have to drop 500 on a tbelt.
