'91 CQ Converter - Downpipe Exhaust Donut Replacement

Every 3-4 yrs, my '91 CQ's converter to downpipe exhaust donut shrinks enough to spring an exhaust leak.
Is there a more permanent solution to this so I don't go over this exhaust donut replacement exercise regularly?

I can snap a pic off for you if need be, but pretty much they cut the flange from my downpipe, cut the flange off the cat side, and this clamp seals all the way around the tubing. I was extremely skeptical about it when they installed the thing but it hasnt let me down yet. As for longevity it's only been on th ecar a few months so I have no clue if it'll outlast the original donut design.
