Default 97 Audi Cabriolet Power Top

I have a nearly perfect 97 Audi Cabriolet with 19000 original miles and a power top. All of a sudden the power top stopped working. The brake is on, it's in park and the trunk is closed and still the indicator flashes and the top won't work. Any ideas before I bring it to a dealer and probably pay $500 to fix it?

Yep! I figured out how to raise and lower it manually so the mechanism works well.

You can manually open/close the top, BTDT. Chances are, one of the sensors went south or wiring in the trunk area has become broken, or both. We had a wiring problem caused by the dealer when replacing a tail lamp lens that they cracked after replacing the trunk lock cylinder/mechanism that they broke...

Check the wiring in the trunk lid hinges.

Default Check this out:

All thanks to Nick (and Mr.Fix-It) for all the help! This is a picture showing the wires that were completely torn apart at the passenger side hinge. They had to be stripped and joined together again.

Take a look at all the wiring along the hatch arches, and see if you see any broken wires.

Do you hear the pump working at all?

Goodluck,

All the wires look intact. It must be the sensor that notes that the trunk is closed, wherever that is. I dont' hear any motor working at all
