Default That's specifically what I'm going to use so obviously my thoughts are positive...

Down the road there may be other oils, better oils, different oils but M1 is my "jumping-off" point as it seems the most inert/innocuous and closest in viscosity with higher temp ratings and a better anti-wear additive package than Pentosin. And it's compatible with all Dexron I & II ATFs so in an emergency you can get it at any FLAPS or even 7-11. If you lose all your 11S the car is DEAD until you find more and good luck if you're on a road trip! An additional bonus is it, like ALL other ATF's has an additive that enhances sealing and prevents leaks which is lacking altogether in the Pentosin product descriptions. Or at least any mention of it in any Pentosin product. And I would "think" if Pentosin had such additives people like us would want to know. Also I believe the sheer occurences of leaks at this and every other 11S forum would indicate "sealing" is not 11S's strong suit.

Default Something I just read on this site makes me think you are on to something...

Read the Important note on fluid compatibility: >>
if vehicle specifications state CHF7.1, CHF11S and CHF202 can be substituted in place of, but not mixed with, CHF7.1.

And from what I just read .....CHF 7.1 is a mineral oil based fluid; CHF11S and CHF202 are synthetic oil based fluids. CHF 7.1 fluid is green in color, and CHF11S and CHF202 are dark green in color.

If what I've read is true than Mobil1 can be used.<ul><li><a href="http://www.globalautoparts.biz/pentosin_hydraulic_fluids.html">http://www.globalautoparts.biz/pentosin_hydraulic_fluids.html</a</li></ul>

I'd agree with your hypothesis, both of them.

Default Gleaning any empirical hard facts about CHS Pentosin 11S is exceedingly difficult...

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/711/11s_ingredients.jpg"></center><p>
some sites say it's mineral oil, others say it's synthetic and yet others say it's a "blend." And ALL of these are CHS sites!

My personal favorite is line #3: "Distillates, (petroleum), solvent de-waxed heavy paraffinic" Well, first off paraffin IS wax so this reads like "dewaxed heavy wax" WTF is that!?! "OH and could ya supersize my order with no mayo plus heavy mayo?" ;-)

In studying the ingredients listed on the side of an 11S can I read mentions of petroleum based oil stock and petroleum based mineral oils specifically but absolutely no mention of man-made, synthesized or chemically engineered molecular stranding as in other synthetic oils.

It's almost if CHS doesn't want someone to get too close. Yet the Mobil 1 products are fully disclosed in great detail.

Make of that what you will but the "intent" reeks a little to me of CHS wanting to keep a LOT of things secret. As to whether or not that involves scare tactics via non-disclosure I cannot say. But I find it VERY strange they list it as petroleum at one site, synthetic at another and petroleum on the can. Just makes no sense to me. Seems like they're intentionally or accidentally trying to make it as confusing and misunderstood as they can. "Confuse em with ambiguity!"

To me throwing petroleum distillates, petroleum based lubricating oils and petroleum based mineral oils in a container and calling it "synthetic" just because it doesn't occur naturally in the ground is NOT my idea of "synthetic" oil.

Default Hydrogenation in petroleum oils is used purely for enhanced cold-flow characteristics...

and has a corresponding but slight affect on lowering acidity via alkaline introduction of the hydrogen molecules.

Boy! If there's ONE thing I don't see it would be 11S needing ANY cold-flow enhancing!

Default Ummm... my sources have informed me dealers used to use Wolfs Head ATF

in the PS systems in cars, much cheaper than the 11S stuff.

Default Getting ready to swap Power Steering Rack...

I also just finished doing some reading up on VAP's write up about Pentosin 11s fluid. He was talking about swapping Mobil 1 M1 ATF for the pentosin 11s. Have members been doing this fluid replacement without problems? Anything to report on? I'm interested to know more.

Hm, personally I've always run whatever ps fluid I had on hand or could get cheap in mine till the last fill up, decided I'd give the pentosin a shot since that's what it recommends, personally, all I've found is pentosin sucks. Pump sounds like crap, steering is stiff(go superman go!) and well I used 2 full cans of it over the last 4 months opposed to 4 courts over the last couple years with normal fluid (I have a hole in my return line, can't seem to find a replacement so I'm gonna track down a coupler and splice it till I do find one)
