Re: air filter to cone mod
not for $245!!! geezus! but that could possibly work. but, i think that the air box half that mounts to the inner fender may be different. but, that may not matter, since it looks like the t44 and t89 use similar mount setups (identical?). the MAFS is the same between the 10vt and the 10v of the 80/90, so that should work, in that respect. however, will it clear the headlamp...you could always convert to the dual round setup, or make your own...i'd ask how long it is from the front of the MAFS to the front of the filter, and go from there. if you don't want to design and fab your own, then this is probably your only route since the jamex foam filter is NLA (all jamex stuff is NLA).

Simple concept kudos
Now thats an interesting idea....one of us could no doubt mod the airbox to achieve a similar result at a 5th of that price...gee I might extend the concept and run a hose off the box,up the side of the windscreen a-la "snorkel" and while I'm at it put some remote controllable air shocks to my Quattro, for those bush-bashing,river-crossing rallies we do down here in Australia !!!!

Just be sure to stick a skid plate under your oil pan! hehe
I've been playing with rally ideas myself (although right now I only have the beginnings of a lighting system), but I think I'd have relocate the oil filter and fabricate a skid plate before doing any real off-roading - the oil filter looks mighty vulnerable sticking straight down there!! As for the air filter, a little clever use of household materials from home depot and a dremel tool could do the same thing for $20, plus the air filter. it just depends on what filters you could find that fit. Maybe I'll do that during my spring break ...

So basically I need to match it to the bottom of the cis system
Then fabricate a box out of aluminum/steel. With an adapter for a cone. I guess I will buy the cone first. Is there a size of the box I should aim for, or does it not matter? Do you think this will add any power. Not the 8hp they claim, but some. Especially with a 272 cam. I will get started and let you all know what I find out.

Re: So basically I need to match it to the bottom of the cis system
i don't think that the size of the "airbox" will matter that much, just don't make it an abrupt change in direction. maybe make like a 1/4 of a cylinder? ie, like 1/4 of a pizza...
any increase in airflow in can help, as long as it can get out easily as well...the 272 cam will certainly help things out get a good exhaust, and thats probably about it for cheap mods for the 10v (unless you try fitting a 10vt fuel meter up?). after that, it'd be time to get the EV crank, new rods, and pistons to match...or do a 10v turbo conversion.
