Default All of you RS2 front bumper owners please share the secret!

My question is: what is the best/smartest/easyets way to mount and audi rs2 (cabriolet) bumper on a 1993 audi 90. Well i got mine in april but the thing is that my bodyman had his hands up his *** and mounted mine over the upper portion of my stock bumper and now i have about an inch and a half gap inbetwheen the bumper and fenders on the sides right where the stock molding went...

Could someoe please share some installation info or detailed pictures!
Any ifo would be highly appriciated!
thanx

Default It looks like

the center looks really high. Is this where it was mounted "over" the old piece?

Do you have any other pics? Something doesn't look right. It looks like the whole bumper needs to go up higher end to end.

The sides of the bumper should line up right with the lower edge of the fenders and in tight to the bottom of the lights and grill.

I just re-mounted mine last night. I had to fix a big whole in the bumper, and (mostly) finished it late. I just haven't had any time, so it's not actually finished but at least it's back on.

I'll try and take some closeup pics for you.

I am going to mounting one on a road Coupe at some point. I just haven't gotten a spare minute to even think about it. I'll do a writeup/photo post when I do.

Default the secret at least for me was to start out with the "real deal" Audi RS2 bumper...

because its so much thicker, more rigid but at the penalty of some additional weight. That it bolts to stock mounting points was also a consideration as was that it had all its mounting points cast & integrated into the bumper didnt break my heart either. Nor that the solid/rigid RS2 belly pan with NACA brake cooling ducts was available to further enhance the overall rigidity of the 2 assembled pieces. Makes for an incredibly rigid bumper at speeds well in excess of 150MPH.

Yours is definately badly warped... worst I've seen. But others here own fiberglass knock-offs and somehow managed to make em look downright "real" and without any of the distortion you have so it can definately be done.

as far as i know on most fiberglass and other aftermarket RS2 bumpers you have to fab something up to support them. Is there much material on the ends of the bumper to attach it to the inner fender well area? It appears that it could be warped or just not supported enough on the ends. Its when we arent there to really see what youve got.

On the OEM RS2 bumper there are holes along the sides to attach it to the fender well area just like you can see on the US bumper to support the ends. there are also two brackets(comes with the OEM RS2) that it slides over and attaches to to support the center section. plus like Mance said, the under belly tray supports it a great deal as well.

my recommendation would be that if you still have any of the US bumper left, take the new one off and compare the two and see where the mounting points are and go from there.

Default Re:

But my stock bumper clips on with the valence lip typa looking thing from the top and it's still there right now and thats what is making it look so uneven, another issue that i have is that the actuall metall bumper underneeth would not let me push the fiberglass bumper quite as far back as I want to, and that's the reason i got rid of the rs2 inbumper foglight wells, is there anything i could do to push the bumper in more to get it flush with the headlights?

thank you

Default yep those are the brackets

those would definitely help, but im just not sure what the back of your bumper looks like. so im assuming it would be of use only if something else is fabricated to connect the bumper to those brackets.
