I need to recheck my head torque, and I am out of stock on a few gaskets. I decided to check out a number of local parts houses, and see what was what.
What I found amazed me;
1. Virtually all of them, even the specialty import houses don't carry any Audi parts.
2. Nearly all of them look at you with a deer in the headlight look, when you even mention Audi.
So.... I decided to go to the dealer to pick up a few parts, including an airfilter. Strangely, I got the same look, when I said I had an '89 90Q. As it turns out, they don't carry any parts earlier than '93.
Am I crazy?

Howdy! This is very common. BFCP (Burlington Foreign Car Parts) located up here in VT is horrendous when it comes to Audi parts. The dealer here never stocks anything close to '95 or lower, every parts I have ever purchased at the dealer parts counter up here has been ordered. The closest thing to an actual Audi parts coutner is The Parts Connection, Rod usually has all these small parts sitting on shelves, can be very helpful when the dealer has no EM gaskets or as I find funny, 3 of them instead of 4 or 5 depending on your engine.
Cheers!

wtf?? My dealer may not have gaskets in stock (they usually don't unless its a car with warranty left on it, ie new cars or newer cars), but they will be more than happy to order anything for you. Unless the part is NLA, they will get it for you.
I've gotten stuff from them for both the '86 and '90 without problems. They also don't mind me coming in with part numbers...But, a couple of the parts guys do know I'm at least rebuilding an MC engine.
Did you check www.performancemotorcars.com for most of the gaskets and many other engine related bits? They don't have everything, but I've been happy with the service.

O'Daniel Audi here in Fort Wayne does a good job whenever I come in. Im decent friends with the Audi tech and some of the parts guys. Whenever I say I need to look up a part or something, they take me in the back and let me look at the screen myself, how nice. They even ask me if I have anything to ask Mike, the head tech, so usually I'll schmooze with him for maybe 5-10 mins, since hes really into the early-mid 80's Audi's.
But part wise, they usually have to order stuff, which I really dont mind.

The local dealer treats me like I am a thorn in his side. I even go in to buy Audi apparel, and they act like it's too much bother.
Wonder how I would get treated if I was in the showroom looking at a TT?

Every part was in stock, although I would have liked to order a few intake gaskets, they only had 1 in stock.
Prices seemed good, name brand parts(Bosch).
I'll see how they do, supposed to ship tomorrow.
