Default Another gauge illumination problem thread. glove box light works OK...

I have searched and searched to try and find the problem. All the gauges work and all the warning lights like check engine and high beams work, but not the illumination when I turn on the headlights. I cut out the trunk wiring and replace all of it with at least a foot of wire each. License plate lamps were not working so I put some new bulbs in, and they still don't work. Checked illumination bulbs with volt meter and OK, even installed new bulbs last night. Fuse is good. The hood light does not work and i didn't think of that bulb until now. I have my car for sale and I can't see Joe Shmoe non audi 90file wanting to buy the car if the gauge lights don't work. Its a 94 90S. The fact that the license plate bulb still doesn't work bothers me and am wondering if that means anything. Could the light switch/lever cause the gauge lights to not light up also?

Default This has been happening to me also.

One day I was driving and it just shut off and my glove light is still working also. I heard it could be because your license plate bulbs are burnt out which mine were but it wasn't the problem.

Just looked under the hood and I don't see any light. Should there be one?

Default I just noticed the back of the brightness potentiometer housing is cracked. Hmmm..

Could that be what is causing the lights to not work. Any one else experience this? If so how do you fix this?

Yup... It was the busted dimmer switch. New one and now the gauges light up. Somebody buy my car!
