Default Anti lock off

So I'm stopped at drive through sitting idleing in my '94 90Q & the anti lock off light comes on. As I pull away the car is vibrating like the the anti lock is in operation(or the engine is about to stall, I'm not braking at this time). About a block later as I turn into the driveway at work I brake hard to see what happens & the light goes off & everything seems back to normal. What just happened? A sign of trouble to come? Thanks

Hey mate,
I have a SOMEWHAT similar problem on a 94 90csqSport:
The [Antilock OFF] light came on (happened around three months ago), I have decided to test my brakes to see if it is actually on or just VDO light misfiring, so I braked hard, and no ABS. Right after that, [Antilock OFF] went off, and ABS started working again.
The same day, in the evening, I turned the engine on, [Antilock OFF] came on again, I've decided to reset the engine (just ON and OFF), and the light went OFF, so this technique was working for a week, until [Antilock OFF] kept on at all times.

What I have done:
I have changed my fuse (31 I believe), and [Antilock Off] went off, and never went on for about three to four weeks.

I have went to scan it at my local garage (Audi certified), I was told my rear left ABS Sensor needs to be changed. 240$ for the sensor, 100$ for labour.

What I also noticed is that everytime it (ABS) turned on while driving (rarely, but happens), my brake pedal, while braking, vibrates like if ABS was stopping my car.

Anyhow, as I said, its SOMEWHAT related to my problem on the same car of the same year.

peace!

Thanks, that sounds like the problem. I'll try & locate the sensor & give it a cleaning. Is it in the caliper?

It's on the knuckles, just pulls right out. But you probably figured that out already.

wd-40 can help loosen the rust, first twist the whole sensor, it just sits in the hole with a copper/brass like shim inside. That's all that holds it on. Try to lift up on the rubber seal that goes around and spray under that...

Water Displacement - 40 is not a good oil to penetrate and loosen rust. It helps prevent rust sure. But Kroil, PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench, etc all do a better job, as that is what they were designed to do.
