Default Why?

Do you mean strut tower brace or sway bar?

Sway bar, I can see, but do you really want a rear strut tower brace? I have one front and rear, but I doubt you want one.

Default Agreed. And if you DO make one, make so it can be removed when not needed.

Puting front and rear strut braces on a car, makes it a bone shaker.

Default The B4 chassis, is engineered so it does not "require" one! ;O)

Look at how the rear shocks attach to the chassis! ;O)

Default yea, i understand. but will it help even a little bit considering the body roll?

i know that (depending on diameter and stiffness) the rear strut tower brace would induce some oversteer, which i think would be helpful.

rear tower brace has little effect, oversteer from a rear sway bar is more drastic

Default Absolutely

The strut tower bar will not do terribly much for handling. Some tweaking with your tires/springs/struts/roll bar would make more sense.

Basically by adding strut bars either front or rear or both, you are connecting all the flex points together. the car will indeed get very stiff, but I can pretty much bet you won't like it one bit.

The one in my car is to keep the car from bending up into a pretzel, not for any handling gains.

Default Re: will it help? No. body roll is controlled with "anti-roll-bars" and stiffer/lower springs! ;O)

To desing a rear strut bar, you first have to "fully" understand the vehicle engineering, and its chassis dynamics. Namely, under all driving conditions. ;O) This is why Audi has several dozen high-paid engineers. They specialize in the stuff! ;O) Once you "know" all the data on the B4 chassis, you can then ask ya-self: "Self, would a rear strut bar serve any useful purpose?"

Normally strut tower braces, are just that. They brace the strut towers. As found on the front struts.

The rears on the B4 chassis, have a whole different set of facts & figures. You "need" to know what your doing, desigining a rear strut brace, as you could design something that serves no useful purpose at all, other than looks. Or design a bar that actually transfers the stress to areas you dont want it in!

Audi totally redesigned the B4 chassis, and even made it %23 more stiffer than the B3 chassis.

Uni-body chassis need to flex! ;O)

Take a close look at how Rally cars are prepped. They weld all the seams, and add an 8 point roll cage.

IMO, a rear strut bar is not needed for the B4. Isnt a single person here, who is going to push the car so hard in the corners, to where it "needs" such a device! ;O)
