Anyone know anything about B3 Speedo faults?

Hi Everyone,
The speedo in my '89 90q20V has been playing up for some time and is steadily getting worse. The symptoms are that when it's cold the needle occasionally sticks at the 0 mark and then all of a sudden will spring into life when at speed.
The problem seems to be in the instrument cluster as a gentle tap on the dash usually kicks it into life. I've also noticed that when it's not working the trip meter and odometer are still functioning which I guess points to the actual speedo needle driver as the source of the fault.
Anyway, I've ignored this for about three years now, but it's happening more often and is starting to require harder and harder hits (Three Stooges like) to kick it into life.
Has anyone seen this before, and if so, do you have any ideas on how to fix it?

that use to happen to me every now and then, I think in my hurries I would try to put the connections back in fast and not do it accurately enough causing weird problems like the one you are speaking of.
