I was wondering if its a huge job or not and if you dont remove the engine is it near impossible?

Slide it out sideways from your wheelwells.

But yeah, you're right, it's alot easier if you take out the engine.

Default It can be done without removing the engine but.....

a great deal of small & large parts need to be removed. Starting with subframe, most of the hoses, piping, electrical connections and asstd wiring. The rack needs to be stripped clean of everything connected to it. You need to streamline the rack and that means STRIPPED. The rack needs to be tilted on the passenger side when released from the chasis and the firewall to get it out. Took a guy I know a week to do the whole job & he was trained Audi wrench. Another guy on the 20V Forum used a saz-all & cut an access hole next to the chasis mount to get the rack out.(not a good idea).
