Default Audi_80 or MikTip! My 200 doesn't seem to have any compression!

I've tested it with compression meter and it doesnt seem to have any compression! I've re-installed the timing belt 4 times (but they are always lined up in the same spot)! Would could i be doing wrong? Could it be my timing?

Default timing has nothing to do with compression

its the piston rings or valves opening at the wrong spot (cam)

Default Re: Well if they are opening at the wrong spot wouldn't you think that what drives the valves ....

is at fault? And the timing belt indirectly drives the valves!

Default the belt off by up to 3 notches can make no difference in compression

theres no way a timing belt can stretch that much.

Howdy! Timing can have compression effects. If the valves are opening at the wrong time all the pressure escapes through the valve port. You can have the timing 180 degrees out possibly. Are you sure when you setup the timing belt that the #1 piston is at TDC?

Did you do the headgasket? Have you bent your valves upon first start up? If you had the timing way off and cranked the engine that way the damage may have been done, assuming the worst here. I always hand crank the engine after doing a timing belt job, you never know.

On another side are you using the compression gauge properly? Hand crank the engine with everything connected and feel for resistance. Upon compression of two cylinders you'll feel it fight you, or you may hear a wooshing noise as the compressed air escapes somewhere. If it escapes through the exhaust or backs out the intake then your valve timing is off, redo that timing belt.

Good Luck!

Default lobes at #1 points up

distributer rotor at mark, flywheel at TDC (the good one).

when i installed my cam, fired up first try.

the cam lobes should sit straight up if the cam caps are off.

I put on the headgasket correctly with reference from the chilton manual! I've never heard any weird breaking/snapping noises! Also i've already thought of it being 180 degreees over which is why the last 2 times i did it did it on both sides!
