I am about to buy a 1995 Audi 90 Quattro. I was just reading up on the car a little bit, getting familiar with the specifications and such. Autozone says that the car takes straight 30w oil. Is this right?

...if the car came with dino oil, keep using dino, if it had synthetic, keep using synthetic.
As far as weight...how much oil does your car leak? I'd go with a heavier weight (maybe even as thick as 20W50 if you're in a warm enough climate). If you don't leak/consume any oil, you can try a 5W20 or 5W30. If you just don't know or care, use 10W30 (or 10W40).

Are you using the M1-301 as the oversized filter for your car?
I ask because catalogs don't list this filter for early VW Diesel / Newer A6...not sure what the M1-301 fits originally. I'll have to check.

I've used it in the past, but since it costs $11, I often get the lower cost STP filters AZ has. Every once in a while I splurge and get the M1-301.
I used the book at my local AZ to determine the usability of the M1-301 on my Audi.
To date, I've never had any issues running the M1-301.

And also FYI, the STP are a great filter for the cost. They are slowly phasing in the new "E core" filters with STP. These use a rigid plastic cage fused inside the filter element with integrated endcaps, so they flow incredibly better and less risk of the endcaps failing, much better than the older STP filters. When you're in the store next, take a peek inside a common STP, like an S5 for GM small block and look at the core.
