B3 door trim panel removal?

So... on my wonderful newly-acquired 1990 80Q, the cloth on the door "trim panels" (for lack of a better term) is coming loose and I'd like to fix the problem. There's a short section in the Bentley addressing this which I've read and now I'm even more confused than when I started! ;^)
What I'm referring to is not the door skins themselves, but the cloth-covered (on cars with a cloth interior, of course) panels that are *on* the door skins.
My main question is how to remove those panels from the door skin itself (assuming they're removable)? I think if I could get them off without destroying them, I could figure out how to reattach the cloth.
So has anyone ever dealt with this?

I haven't done this work yet, but I'm going to have to, it's on the to-do list. I saw this:

Happy hunting, I think yo may be correct in that the panels themselves might have to be dis-assembled first.
