Default B4CC into CQ writeup

Finally put all my info into a .doc and also have some pictures of the process. This is preliminary and I may make changes still. I have yet to test if the AC works though, I need to reflash the CC unit for a 5 cyl and recharge my AC system. As you can see from the temp on the temp display no AC isn't a problem right now.

Default Congrats! Having done the auto to manual on my 20v I have a lot of respect for your swap.

What ended up being the problem with the temp display.

One suggestion, paint the trims black or find a canadian auxillary gauge panel (black). I love my car without all that ugly wood. I found a sport shift know from an A4. Got the black aux. from the UK before the dollar went down and a friend painted the ashtray.

Default maybe on down the road

Thanks. I need to find carbon trim first or perhaps I'll just paint the wood. Where did you get those red bulb covers for your aux gauges? I used red sharpie on mine and it worked okay for a few months but is starting to fade off. I never had a problem with my temp display, that was someone else on here a week or so ago.

Default very well done. Kudos! <edit> actually, I take it back =P... doing an AUTO-to-AUTO swap ain't

nothin' that super duper.

I was under the impression you did a Manual-to-AUTO swap.

Default difficulty level?

As far as the splicing goes? This is something I'd like to attempt in the future.

Default heater core + wiring

It's as hard as doing a heater core replacement(I forgot to mention that you should put a new one in while you have the climate box out of the car.) plus a bit of wiring. If you can do basic soldering and use butt splicers you will be fine. The biggest thing is how time consuming this is. I had to get the old box from a car at the junkyard. Take my HVAC box out and swap the AC evaporator to the new box, then reseal/rebuild the new one. I'd say devote a good 2 solid weekends to get it done. Maybe less if you buy the HVAC box from someone.

Default couple questions

I was asking about this a few days ago on Motorgeek, Did you have an auto CC box before? are the b4 and b3 boxes different? I can't stand the b3 electric heater, it doesnt work for crap! I was wondering about either swapping for a manual control or to swap in a b4 CC panel hoping it would somehow intergrate with my current... very nice swap and nice write up. thanks for your time

Default Re: couple questions

The boxes are totally different. The B4 climate box uses electronic servos to control the flaps while the B3 uses vacuum controlled ones. Yes, my CQ had auto climate before. That's what allowed me to make the adapter harness. The B4 climate controls allow you have much more flexibility in manual control mode. You can choose 3 settings or any combination of them where the air is coming from and there are 8 settings for the fan, not just low, hi, or auto. It also really updates the look of the CQ interior by bringing it out of the 80s.
