Default Same thing just happened to me

Turned out to be one of the wires in the bundle. In my case wiggling the loom back and forth near the hinge caused the light to go on and off. You can easily check which wire is bad with an ohmmeter. The lead on the lamp with the plastic cover is the positive and the unshielded lead is the negative. In my case it was the negative wire that was bad since gounding the lamp caused it to come on.

BTW there is a very, very small chance that it could be the switch in the trunk lid but I wouldn't worry about it. You can jumper it just to be sure but I'd be surprised if it's bad.

In my case I'm probably going to split the harness and fix the wire at the break. The other choice is to re-wire the whole loom (8 wires) which is a lot of work. Well you could buy a new loom I suppose but it's $235 at the dealer so you'd need to be both rich and lazy to go that way :-).

FYI the wiring goes:

positive -> switch -> lamp -> negative
