Default A/C RECHARGE HELP...

I replaced my noisy a/c compressor over the weekend and I can't find the correct adapter to fill the system. I only seeing one valve which in actually on the compressor itself. I did a search but the information seems to be all over the board. I have a 1994 90. Thanks in advance for any help.

its on the driver side front of the radiator. you need to take it to a shop! they only use the HI point to charge the system

Well, I have a '93, and I was able to charge via the port on the compressor, from underneath. Just did it last week. You have to install a 134a adapter first. Keep in mind they used 2 different brand compressors for a couple years, so this may not apply to your car.

My new compressor is off of a 1995 Cabriolet. The fitting is the same as my old compressor though. I can't seem to find coupling to attach to my fitting though. Did you replace the whole screw out fitting on the compressor? How did you fill it...with the system off or on and how much did you put in? Sorry about all the questions. Thanks!

Default This fitting..

I used a fitting like the top one shown in the link.

Is you system already converted to 134a? If not, you need the conversion fitting. It was 3 years ago when I put the adapter on my '93, I'm pretty sure it screwed on. I did use a manifold guage setup to do it, those can-with-hose things they sell may not work as well. I believe the capacity is 24 oz, but consult the manual to be sure.

I got the fitting for $10 from the link in the previous post. Can you tell me what pounds your manual says to fill the compressor with? I have found 1.75 lbs. of liquid filled with the compressor turned off. Thanks.

Nobody has mentioned anything about vacuuming the system. If you replaced the compressor, then you have opened up the system. This needs to be vacuumed and leak checked. Really, A/C is one of those things worth the $85 bucks or so to have serviced at an indy. You've done the big pricy stuff replacing the compressor. I can't remember if this system has a dessicant bag in it, but if it does, it has probably now become saturated with moisture since the system was opened up and needs to be vacuumed to dry it out. Let it be serviced by an A/C guy at this point and save the bucks needed to buy a vacuum pump.
