Default Cabiolet rear window regulator issue

Last week the drivers side rear window went down, but made a crunch sound when I tried to put it up. I finally had a little time today to take everything apart to see what broke. I was expecting to find one of the wheels had broken, but it ended up being the block that attaches the cables to the glass. Has anyone ever seen a block like this on any other VAG car? I would prefer to just replace the block if possible instead of the whole regulator.

I have a 1996 Cabriolet and I have the same problem. I am in the process getting the supplies to try and mold a new piece. Let you know if it works.

Same block broke LHS on my 97 Cab. After figuring this, I took 2 hose clamps, shaped the band to fit the block tightly, leaving just enough room to let the spring do the cable suspension job, but preventing it from slip out the broken spring anchor cage. I considered this ugly fix as a temporary, but it works perfectly for over 2 years by now, and I am not keen to go through the window-alignment again if I don't need to. Sorry no pix taken, but I have one of the coolant hose clamps I used.....

Default Rear Window Regulator Part

This is the part I was able to make for my Audi Cabriolet 1996 Rear Window Regulator. I seems to be holding for now. Do you know how tight the cables are to be? They seem really tight but working fine. Any tips on alining the windows? An can anyone tell me how to get the knee panel off under the steering wheel. When I baught the car they told me they removed the fuse for the power windows so the motor would not be damaged until it was fixed. I can't figure out how to remove the panel to get to them. All bolts are removed but it is not coming off. Didn't want to force it unless I know I have to. Can't afford to break anything else.

Knee panel removal: There are four bolts. Two hidden under circular caps (you pry these out with a screw driver) at the top and two down lower toward the firewall. Once the bolts are removed the top part falls down and you slide the whole thing uup towards you.
