1994 90s, Non-Quattro??? I broke the plastic hose that goes from the valve cover to the air filter housing hose. It "was" plastic, in it thought this is were my PCV Valve should have been, but there was nothing but this plastic hose there. The hose was all gunked up inside, which is why I would like to check the condition of that valve.

..there are rubber valve flaps that 'regulate' the flow of the crankcase gasses into the intake, located within the inner plastic plenum wall.
You probably will find a load of gunk in the plenum wall cavity same as well as the PCV pipes. The reason it collects here is that the oil vapors are cooled and solidify on their journey from the top of the crankcase to the combustion chamber.
The gunk will eventually disappear by itself when the engine operates in higher ambient temperatures and longer journeys.
