Can you run a quattro with out center propeller shaft?

Can you drive a Quattro without center propeller shaft for diagnosis purposes?

only first generation quattro

with a locking center differential.

The 80/90 series (gen2) will go nowhere without all four axles and the center driveshaft installed.
