my old 1993 90CSQ suddenly died on my friend while he was driving on the highway. He coasted off to the side of the road and the starter spins, but the solenoid doesn't engage.
I'm going to look at it this weekend- any ideas? Ignition switch?

check your grounds first... if the solenoid is not responding, then most likely its just shot.... but you may want to check the switch before replacing the starter

well that is strange and I hope I am wrong but it sounds much more serious. an engine won't suddenly stop if there are issue with the starter or starter solenoid.
if now the engine just spins he has no compresion .. sounds like a busted timing belt. Hope I am wrong however.
