it cranks and cranks for about 4 or 5 seconds but wont turn over. as soon as i turn the key back and then crank it again, it fires up instantly. what gives? could it be the fuel pump? i noticed that when i first get into the car and turn the key to the "on" position without cranking the starter and leave it there for a few seconds, the car will start easier on the first try - usually right away. are there any other things i can check?
thanks.
thanks.

I have a similar problem. Takes about 4 secs to start from cold or when it has been left for over an hour. I havent worked out what it is yet but there are several possibilities as I see it:
Leaky injectors - seeping fuel into cylinders after engine is switched off so it is flooded when you next try to start it.
Bad pressure regulator or fuel pump check valve that loses fuel pressure in the fuel lines over time (it just leaks back into the tank).
Bad Idle stab. valve not letting enough air in for cold starting.
There are probably many more.
I have found that if I disconnect the plug from the cold start valve it starts much better. Try this as a quick fix.
let me know if wou solve the problem as it is starting to bug me!
