Agreed, I've done plenty without it.

Default True the belt can be replace without the proper tools, however

Due to the fact that the belt sprockets do not have a key way it is a tapered fit there is no way verifing cam timinig without the tool. You are making the assumption that the cam timing is correct what if it isn't??? If you are changing the belt do it right.

Default LOL- well here's the story..........

I've done countless t belts without the tool- but recently even after it's checked with my long bar method, after you tension the belt, (yes, I do loosen the sprockets so they spin freely).. the cams are probably about 1-2 degrees off from the crank timing.. Thus deciding that the tool is really the only way to do it right correctly, with out having to redo it.

True. The tool is needed to "dial-in" timing correctly.

Default You will need the tool, I had to get an Audi dealership mechanic to put on the belt..........

and HE brought the tool, because the mechanic who swore he did timing belts for 30 years and could do any car couldn't do it on my Audi.
